EPA Greenhouse Gas Regulations, Climate Protection, and Environmental Justice
I would like to call myself an environmentalist. I’m a huge advocate for clean air, clean water, protecting land for the public benefit and the wildlife that lives there. I believe in a concept called sustainability, which is protecting what we have today for future generations.
However, one of America’s biggest climate protections was just rolled back. And this isn’t just about power plants. It’s about what type of planet are we going to leave for our children.
I’m Attorney Tracy Paulsen, founder of Rightful Legal.
EPA Greenhouse Gas Regulations for Power Plants
The EPA has now repealed major federal limits on greenhouse gas pollution from coal- and gas-fired power plants and is proposing to eliminate the remaining federal greenhouse gas standards for the power sector.
The EPA says these changes could lower regulatory costs, strengthen energy reliability, and help meet America’s rapidly growing demand for electricity, which has a lot to do with AI data centers.
But there is another side to this story that we cannot ignore.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Environmental Costs
Power plants are one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and in the world. And when we increase climate pollution, the costs don’t simply disappear.
Costs show up not as money, but in stronger storms, extreme heat, flooding, wildfires, damaged communities, and threats to human health and the environment.
And ultimately, someone’s going to pay. The question is, who should it be?
Should families and future generations bear the environmental cost of the energy that we consume today? Or should corporations, industries, and government be required to act responsibly when their decisions can affect millions of people and generations to come?
Environmental Justice and Accountability
