Good afternoon. Attorney Tracy Paulsen here with Rightful Legal. Today, I’m in Boston. I was at a conference and received a call from a potential client whose 14-year-old daughter is suffering from anorexia, bulimia, and poor academic performance in school.

She is in the ninth grade and now has to be homeschooled because her anxiety is so severe. This is a result of social media.
The mother informed me that her daughter is on social media, namely TikTok, for almost eight hours a day. This started with YouTube a few years ago in middle school.
How Social Media Affects Children
She suffers from body image issues by looking at what is deemed perfection on Instagram.
These are real cases. We are seeing them in the news. I have many clients who are part of the social media addiction multidistrict litigation in federal court in the Northern District of California.

Who May Qualify for a Social Media Addiction Lawsuit?
If you have a child who is under 25, was under 18 when using social media, used social media for more than three hours a day, and suffered an injury such as anorexia or self-harm, they may qualify.
In some cases, it is very sad. Social media use has led to suicide and fatalities.
